How Long Does Invisalign Treatment Take?

A common question our dentists are asked is how long treatment with Invisalign will take, and the answer is that treatment times vary with each patient's unique and specific needs.

For example, a patient who has spaces to close between their teeth will likely have a shorter treatment time than a patient correcting a complex bite concern like an overbite. Most patients' treatment times are from 10 to 18 months.

Therefore, the best way to determine your needs and how long your treatment might take is to book an evaluation with one of our dentists. They will gather information about your teeth with x-rays and photos and perform an exam. They'll use this information to determine if clear aligners in Elk Grove are the proper treatment for you, how long it will take, and how much it will cost. You'll leave your evaluation with a clear understanding of all these factors so you can make the right decisions for your smile.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Once you proceed with treatment, our dentists use the information gathered to create your customized treatment plan. According to your dentist's specifications, Invisalign uses the plan to create a series of custom plastic aligners that you'll wear for at least 22 hours per day and one to three weeks; at this point, you'll move on to the next set in the series.

Compliance in wearing your aligners consistently daily is the key to finishing your treatment with Invisalign on time.

What Do Patients Love about Invisalign?

Our patients appreciate several factors about clear aligners with Invisalign:

  • Discretion—Because aligners are clear, they're essentially invisible, and no one will know you're straightening your teeth.
  • Freedom—There are no dietary or home care restrictions since clear aligners are removable.
  • Comfort—Clear aligners are smooth and comfortable, unlike metal brackets and wires, which can poke and tear sensitive gums and soft tissues.
